- Dental education programs affiliated with the National Dental Association (NDA), American Academy of Dental Hygiene (AADH), or American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA)

Course Content
Dental Hygienists in Maine need a Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification at the Healthcare Provider level. Required skills include; Adult, child and infant CPR, AED, and use of a bag-valve-mask. Some Dental Hygienists may also need a First Aid course as well, but this is determined by the employer.
Delivery Method
Dental Hygienists in Maine are required to do the Basic Life Support level of CPR certification for Healthcare Providers that usually includes a practical skills evaluation through a classroom or blended training process. 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer or institution and is not always accepted by the state licensing department or for continuing education credits.

Online CPR trainings are not accepted unless the licensee can verify hands-on participation with the instructor as a component of the training. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification training meets the requirements of the CPR certification requirements.
No more than 6 credit hours of ACLS or PALS certification training completed during a license term will count towards meeting the requirements of this chapter. Online ACLS or PALS trainings are not accepted, unless the licensee can verify hands-on participation with the instructor as a component of the training.
