The Coronavirus pandemic has affected most parts of the world to a greater or lesser extent, and the death rate has become very high and continues to rise. When we first launched this course, we were just going into the first lockdown, and since then we have had relaxations and further lockdowns to control the spread of the virus. Restrictions at different levels are likely to continue in order to keep the spread of the virus to a minimum, which has become harder with new variants of the virus as it mutates. There are different restrictions in many parts of the world, from full lockdowns to restrictions in social interaction. Hand and general hygiene will be part of our lives for a long time to come. Although we are not seeing the infections and deaths we have seen in the peak of the infection, the virus is still here and still infecting and ultimately killing people. We still need to follow strict rules and social distancing and hygiene to try and slow the spread of the disease. Treatment for people with COVID-19 is much more effective now than it was at the start, as more is understood of how the virus affects the body, but people are still getting very sick with COVID and dying.
